Have you seen Zeitgeist?

July 29th, 2008 | Category: Musings

Have you seen Zeitgeist? It’s a movie that addresses the Jesus myth hypothesis, the attack on 9/11, and the Federal Reserve Bank.
It’s an eye opening movie that challenges your perceptions of the America you live in.

Don’t Watch this Movie if you are easily angered by blaspheme, confused by conspiracies, or if your name is Leigh.

Skip ahead to about 8:50 to skip the weird intro.

If Acting were The Force…

July 28th, 2008 | Category: Musings

If Acting were the force,
Method Acting would be the Dark Side.

Method acting is basically this: Call upon your real life experiences to create an emotional response on stage for your character. For example, if you’re playing Anne Frank, and the Nazis burst in, you would have to be very scared. The actor would call upon a memory of a real life experience that made her scared; that could be anything from an alarmingly late period, to getting caught stealing shoes. These all elicit the emotion of fear, which the actor then uses for her character.

Frankly, I think that’s stupid. It’s a cheap way to recreate a character for the audience. I feel that an actor should cry because his character would cry; Not because the character remembered that one time he dropped an ice cream cone. Method Acting in its attempt to bring the audience closer to the character ends up separating the actor from his character. What a waste! The actor isn’t an actor when they are on stage, they are the character.
Method Acting is the shortcut, easy way out of actually attempting to act.

But not only is it cheap, it’s also dangerous.

In order to build up ones ‘methods repertoire,’ the past experiences an actor draws upon, sometimes actors will purposefully submit themselves to activities which can then be directly related to their character.

Heath Ledger was a strong method actor, from what I hear. His last, and certainly his best, role as the Joker was what pushed him over the edge… Read more

Spare Some Change?

July 22nd, 2008 | Category: Musings

Ah Yes, “Spare some change?”, the hobo creed. They sit on our sidewalks, walk through our streets, and make us feel awkward and guilty all around. “Spare some change?” they ask, knowing full well that most of us will oblige.

Well I say No! Not today, you money grubbing smell bags!

Today I was walking by the local man-with-no-home. Usually, I just walk past the guy in a crowd of people, no problem. He will single out the one closest to help, and ask for some change. Today, however, I made the mistake of pulling away from the herd of lemmings, and was ambushed! He smelled the change on me, but innocently inquired… “Hey, do you have any change on you?” Crap! Spotted. It’s too late now, the claws of guilt had already sunk in…

The Internet has made us Spoiled Cowards

July 12th, 2008 | Category: Musings

The internet has made us spoiled cowards with its infinite pool of knowledge, immediate access to people, and easy reach of anything we want.

In the old days, when you wanted to do something new and exciting, you simply did it, and it was magical. Now, not so much. Now, do you know what we do? When we have an idea that we want to do, or a project that we undertake, we don’t jump in head first. We Google it.

What We want is a step-by-step instruction; we want to be spoonfed our information, and most of all, we Don’t want to Think for Ourselves!
